The Tree
I am strong and old
I can survive the heat and cold
But the battering of the winds of time wear me down.
Sometimes I wish I was a sapling again
Able to bend against the gale force wind,
But no longer can that happen for I feel brittle.
The oak is thick and strong,
it's branches reach far.
How many swings have hung from my limbs!
How many children have climbed me with gee going further and
further!
How many leaves have I shed and grew back to shade one
From the hot sun!
I'm getting tired now
And I feel my branches bowing.
No longer able to hold strong the children
That swing from me
How much longer do I have to
wait to be cleared away
To make a new house to fill with
Happy sounds?
