LPCS Graduate and Local Business Make a Great Team!

Sinbad's is a common name for Mediterranean restaurants around Chicago. But Sinbad's Fine Mediterranean Grill on the corner of Clark and Fullerton is doing something not so common: empowering the homeless. One of the Lincoln Park Community Shelter's most recent graduates, Hatem, has gained success by working at Sinbad's since July and continues to do so, sustaining himself and, now, actively participating in the Graduate Community at LPCS. Not only has he personally found gainful employment, and subsequently housing, but Hatem has also helped a number of other guests from the LPCS acquire part-time jobs at Sinbad's in order to build their resumes, self-esteem, and pocketbooks. Two others have successfully worked at Sinbad's gaining valuable work skills and connection to the community surrounding the Shelter.

During his nine-month stay at LPCS, Hatem successfully completed ESL classes and an Introduction to Computers class. As an Iraqi refugee, Hatem is grateful to have the opportunity to feel like he has made some real accomplishments here in Chicago, and displays all of his certificates of achievemnet with pride. As a result of his classes, he is able to communicate better with customers and operate the computerized cash register with little difficulty.

The ower of Sinbad's Fine Mediterranean Grill, Menard, who has also generously donated delicious food for 25, to the delight of LPCS guests on several occasions, has this to say about contributing to the success of an LPCS graduate: "We care because we are part of the community." So another partnership is born, and the Lincoln Park Community shines through the example of Sinbad's and its willingness to support the guests of the LPCS. Please take the opportunity to support and enjoy Sinbad's at 444 W. Fullerton Parkway, or online at www.sinbadsgrill.com. Hatem recommends the couscous and the tagine!
