Volunteer Spotlight: Meet The Honeycomb Project
Volunteering since July of 2011, The Honeycomb Project is definitely our most energetic breakfast group. Founded in January of 2011 in celebration of MLK Jr. Day of Service, The Honeycomb Project is a Chicago not-for-profit organization that engages kids of all ages in volunteering and inspires families to work together to make a difference.
The group decided to get involved with LPCS because they were looking for an opportunity at a shelter that would directly connect their volunteers with the guests. When The Honeycomb Project is not helping out at LPCS, they are busy with many other volunteer activities, including beach and park cleanups and toy drives.
One of the best things about having The Honeycomb Project volunteer is the time right before breakfast is ready to be served. The kids get really excited, and bounce down the halls to put out their hand-drawn place-mats and flower arrangements. They always give a great, big "Good Morning!" to the guests. The food is delicious too, usually involving some eggs and a delicious fruit salad. See photos of group in action here.
We love having all of The Honeycomb Project's volunteers, and cannot wait for their next breakfast date. Thanks for waking up early and helping us start the day on the right foot. We really appreciate it!
